Elva lives in a peaceful tribe, far north in Norveg. She is a Sami and worships nature with all its magic and spirits.

Elva lives together with her Àhkku, which is another word for grandmother, and her mother. Àhkku is a noaidi, a Sami shaman whose job is to heal people and communicate with the spirits. One day Elva will take over Àhkku’s work, and become her tribe’s noaidi, even though her powers have not yet begun to show.

At this time, king Olav Tryggvason ruled Norveg. He had started the Christianising of Norveg and banished all magic and contact with other gods and spirits but the almighty God. Because of this, Elva’s people were not safe, but yet, there was no reason to worry. Until one day …

When they suddenly got a visit from two of Norveg’s earls, the unavoidable happens.

One of the earls, Eirik, is firmly against Christianity and everything Olav stands for. He brought his son, Haakon, who despite his father’s wishes, believed in the one God.

The other earl was Svein. Svein was fond of King Olav and supported the king in his cause. Àhkku and the rest of Elva’s tribe, therefore, had to keep their head down, despite their pride, and sometimes lie when they were around Svein.

An accident happened, and Àhkku had to use illegal magic. But not without risk.

Àhkku’s crime was discovered, and she was taken to Nidaros to be judged by the king. Now Elva must watch over her tribe, but she can’t stand the thought of losing her grandmother.

She starts a perilous journey headed for Nidaros and is accompanied by a new friend. Together they will experience a lot. Will they reach Nidaros before it’s too late? And do they have a plan?

This is an exciting fantasy book with action from the ages of the Vikings. It is about the Sami people, the Norse people and about how non-Christian peoples’ lives were under the rule of King Olav Tryggvason. The book includes themes such as love, family and trust, together with Norse history, magic and religion.

This book is pretty much historical trustable and is a good book for youths in the age of 14+. The book is written in English and is found at Amazon.

Elva bor i en fredelig stamme, langt nord i Norveg. Hun er same, og tilber naturen og all magien knyttet til den.

Elva bor med sin Àhkku, altså bestemor, og moren sin. Àhkku er en noaide, en samisk sjaman som har som jobb å kurere folk og har kontakt med åndene. En dag skal Elva ta over bestemorens jobb, og bli stammens noaide, men Elvas krefter har ikke begynt å vise seg.

På tiden Elva levde var det kong Olav Tryggvason som var konge i Norveg. Han hadde allerede startet å omvende Norveg til et kristent rike, og hadde forbudt all magi og kontakt med andre guder eller ånder en den allmektige Gud. Av denne grunn levde Elvas stamme farlig, men til nå hadde det ikke vært noen grunn til å frykte Olavs folk.

Når Elvas stamme plutselig får besøk av to jarler av Norveg samtidig, begynner det uunngåelige å skje. Den ene jarlen, Eirik, er imot kristendommen og det Olav står for. Han hadde brakt med seg sønnen sin, Haakon, som imot farens vilje, var kristen.

Den andre jarlen het Svein, og var for det Olav hadde bestemt. Àhkku og Elvas stamme måtte derfor holde seg lavt, og lyge når de var i kontakt med ham.

En ulykke skjer, og Àhkku blir nødt til å bruke ulovlige krefter. Men ikke kostnadsfritt.

Àhkkus lovbrudd blir oppdaget, og hun blir ført videre til Nidaros for å få sin dom. Nå er det Elva som må ta vare på stammen, men hun orker ikke å miste bestemoren.

Elva setter ut på en farefull ferd mot Nidaros, og får følge med en ny venn. Sammen vil de oppleve mye, men vil de rekke frem til Nidaros før det er for sent? Og har de egentlig en plan?

Dette er en spennende fantasybok med tema fra vikingtiden, og hvordan livet var for ikke-kristne under kristningen av Norge under kong Olav Tryggvasons styre. Boka har viktige temaer som familie, kjærlighet og tillitt, blandet inn med norrøn historie, magi og religion.

Boka virker ganske så historisk riktig, og er en spennende bok for ungdom i 14+ alderen. Boka er skrevet på engelsk, og du finner den på Amazon.
