(This review includes minor spoilers – but not more than what you could read at the back of the book)
Twilight is the most skilled spy there is, and he is a master of disguises. His main goal is to make the world a better place and to achieve this he has thrown away his identity, his chances of starting a family, and his emotions. Being a spy is his main priority.
A new mission is bestowed upon Twilight. He has to get close to an important political figure, but to do so he must build a family. Twilight – the spy who had no plan of ever getting married or having kids – now must find a wife and adopt a child in a matter of days!
Finding a child was easy enough. There are thousands of orphans with few documents, and Twilight finds Anya. Being a father is a bigger challenge.
Twilight has never been in a father-role position but must now deal with a child with a great imagination, a sense of adventure, and – most importantly – the gift of telepathy. Anya keeps her ability secret but can in fact read his mind – and everyone else’s. And she thinks that her new ‘papa’ being a spy is awesome.
The mission of finding a woman willing to marry him on such short notice seems like an impossible task. Luckily, he stumbles upon Yor. Yor is in deep trouble because she lied about having a boyfriend, and people are getting suspicious of her being single at her age. She needs an alibi just as much as Twilight does – no one must know she is secretly an assassin.
This new-found family must now learn to work like an actual family, something that proves to be a difficult task. For Twilight, everything is at risk. He must enroll Anya in a highly prestigious school, and to do so, his family needs to be above perfect.
This is the first manga in the SpyXFamily-series, and it has me hooked! I love how the characters’ personalities are portrayed and how all their abilities, quirks, and values are depicted through their actions. This manga is filled with action, but also a whole lot of comedy and adorableness.
SpyXFamily is an amazing manga with fight scenes, cute family moments, and a super funny and exciting plot. I am really looking forward to reading more of this series.
Have a pleasant time reading!
